Lyndon Gan Wan Siew
1965 – 2026
Lyndon Gan served on the Methodist Missions Society (MMS) Executive Committee since 2009 until his passing, where he served faithfully as TRAC‘s representative. His passion for missions, particularly through his local church, Kampong Kapor Methodist Church, brought valuable insights and wisdom to the work of MMS. MMS honours his dedication to the church planting work that brings the gospel to the Lahu tribes in northern Thailand.
Lyndon never became a missionary to Thailand, yet he did so much for missions there.
His involvement with MMS, particularly Thai missions, stretched back to 1993 when former MMS Director, the late Rev Dr Clarence Lim, first mooted a Thai mission. Lyndon introduced me to MMS, and I was privileged to help establish the Thai mission in 1994, which is Mettakij Church Association today.
Lyndon was crucial in the expansion of the mission footprint into Chiang Mai in 1996, connecting MMS with a Lahu church that became our mission centre in northern Thailand. Later, he helped to establish more churches with the Lahu people in Chiang Rai.
As a lay ministry staff at Kampong Kapor Methodist Church (KKMC) where he established a vibrant missions ministry, he visited the Lahu people every year since 1998.
Through Lyndon, KKMC is the only church to bring both the young and the old on mission trips to the Lahu region. He once brought a team of elderly members, most in their 70s, to visit Santi Methodist Church. KKMC is also the only Methodist church in Singapore to send student teams annually, including some as young as 12, right after their PSLE.

As a new Christian at KKMC, Lyndon reached out within weeks and in his infectious way, drew me beyond the pews—first to the sound booth, then, with my wife, into the Missions Committee. We felt ill-equipped but he assured us all would be well. Within months we were beside him in the hills north of Chiang Mai, exploring church planting work.
Through the years at KKMC—committee meetings, church camps and Sunday mornings—Lyndon was a constant presence. Psalm 1:3 is my abiding picture of him: a tree planted by streams of water, yielding fruit in season. His fruit lives on in the many lives he blessed.

Lyndon was thoughtful and candid, and he never hesitated to share his views at MMS Executive Committee (ExCo) meetings. His commitment, discernment and concern for the mission field made him a highly valued member. His work leaves a lasting impact on both the ExCo and the mission.

Since 1998, Lyndon worked tirelessly to plant churches and support the Lahu people. I have seen God working through Lyndon in many ways. Every year, Lyndon would come with mission teams, often more than once a year, to teach and carry out evangelistic outreach efforts to the Lahu communities. He helped us to raise funds to support our ministry, from setting up student scholarships, starting income-generating projects and constructing church sanctuaries.
Even with difficulty walking, he would endure trekking through the mountainous terrain in cold weather, staying in rural villages and eating with the local people.
Lyndon was a good example of a servant who loved God and the Lahu people. Thank you, brother Lyndon. Today, you rest in the arms of our Lord for eternity.

One day, when I was 10 years old and walking home from school, I saw a group of foreigners led by Lyndon, coming to my village to sing, dance and preach the gospel. Shortly after, Ps Jusuh shared the gospel with me, and I heard about Jesus for the first time. As an animist, I didn’t believe at first. But eventually, I gave my life to Jesus.
The last time I saw Lyndon was at Christmas 2025, when he came with a missions team. I saw and felt the love of God every time I saw him.

We will always remember Lyndon as a faithful servant of God who loved the Lahu people. He showed God’s love through his commitment to our ministry. He has been an excellent disciple of Christ who was fully committed to serve God. Although we are very sad, we are confident that he is with the Lord in eternity.
