Two US missionaries to serve in MCS

The Martzen family.

AFTER a lapse of the past few years, missionaries from the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) of The United Methodist Church in the United States are once again serving in The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS).

Bishop Dr Robert Solomon has appointed the Rev George Martzen, 45, as Minister attached to the Bishop’s Office, and his wife, the Rev Dr Yu Chin Cheak, 43, as a full-time lecturer at Trinity Theological College (TTC).

Their term of missionary service with the MCS is four years. They will remain as members of the California-Pacific Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.

The Martzens, who have a six-year-old son Walter, reported for work here early last month.

The Rev Martzen’s duties will include assisting in the Bishop’s Office in the areas of training, organisation of events and other assigned duties, and assisting the Director of Church and Community Relations, Mr Peter Teo. This is a full-time appointment. The Rev Dr Yu’s duties will be assigned by TTC.

In a letter to the Martzens, Bishop Dr Solomon said: “We look forward to your ministry and service among us. I am confident that the Lord will bless our partnership.”
