Ten years of church-planting … and counting

10th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of Wesley Methodist Church, Nepal

WESLEY METHODIST CHURCH (WMC), NEPAL celebrated its 10th Anniversary on May 5, 2012. The Rev Lawrence Chua, Mission Superintendent for Nepal, was the Guest-of-Honour and delivered the message at the Thanksgiving Service. It was a time of celebration, made special and memorable with the presence of pastors and leaders from other churches.

WMC had humble beginnings, starting with a home fellowship service on May 4, 2002, with just two families and eight girls from Sophia’s Home. Today, WMC is at the forefront of church planting for the Methodist Church in Nepal (MCN). rough the dedication of its founding members, WMC has been involved in planting churches in Nepal’s central region.

To date, WMC has planted a church in Phulbari, Kavre district and three other preaching points: Baisjanga Methodist Fellowship in Tanahun, Bardan Methodist Fellowship and Battedanda Methodist Fellowship, both in Lalitpur.

WMC is realising its vision – “To multiply indigenous churches in Nepal” – and it is not resting on its laurels. It is evident that God’s faithfulness and the commitment and dedication of the Rev Sabashtain Lepcha and leaders of WMC have made it all possible. All glory and honour belong to God!

The Rev Chua encouraged WMC to continue to love God and to carry on with the work that was started 10 years ago. Following his message, the girls from Sophia’s Home presented some song and dance items. A traditional Nepalese dinner reception followed as the guests and members fellowshipped over a sumptuous meal.

The future is bright for WMC. MCN has just purchased a piece of land at Kusunti in Lalitpur district. is land will be used to build the new MCN Centre and also house WMC and a parsonage for the pastor. Discussions and concept planning will take place soon to look into the design and construction issues. More importantly, funds need to be raised for these plans to be realised.

During Easter, the WMC members and Sophia’s Home girls journeyed more than 14 hours by bus to the Methodist churches in East Nepal. ey joined the believers in East Nepal in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ through skits, songs and dances. At the same time, they helped raise funds for the church building project at Kusunti.

The 10th Anniversary is an important milestone for WMC as it embarks on a new season of its ministry. Greater achievements lie ahead as God’s people trust and obey Him, for His faithfulness and love endures forever.
